My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ-
It was with great joy that after a few months of working with Ben to discern his calling to serve the Lord, Brother Ben Janzen will be ordained to the diaconate on February 22, 2020.
Without doubt through his abundant theological training and rich experience in caring for the sick, the dying, and the most vulnerable of God’s people, Ben will contribute to the vibrancy and vigor of the Progressive Catholic Church. More importantly, he will be instrumental in helping me strengthen the PCC’s presence in the Western United States and form crucial ties with other Christian denominations and Catholic jurisdictions in the area.
Ever since he professed as a lay brother within the Order of Friars Minor, Capuchin, (OFM. Cap.) in 1982 and throughout his time with the Capuchins until 2006, God has been gently beckoning Ben to serve Him as a priest. Obtaining various advanced degrees- a Master of Divinity, a Doctorate in Catholic theology, and Doctorate in Philosophy- Ben served as the first lay theologian professor and advisor to the Capuchin Order in Germany. Nevertheless, despite his abundant liturgical and theological training throughout his 25 years in the monastery, Ben declined numerous times his superiors’ request for him to commence the formal process of ordination into the Catholic priesthood.
I am glad that years later, the Holy Spirit has reignited his vigor to serve as a priest and guided him to the Progressive Catholic Church. With Ben’s years of experience in active ministry and wealth of knowledge in theology, he will be an invaluable member of Holy Orders. However, more importantly, his spirit aligns with the Progressive Catholic Church’s core values and mission- to bring the love of God and neighbor to all of God’s people without discrimination. Therefore, I thank God for allowing me the privilege of ordaining Ben into the diaconate and pray that my sisters and brothers will offer Brother Ben their prayers and benedictions as he finally answers God’s call to serve Him in the Vineyard.
Details for Brother Ben’s ordination are included in the attached invitation.
Pax et Bonum, omnia ad majorem Dei gloriam et sanctae ecclesiae.
My Dear All,
Grace and Peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
